CHANGES Pumpkins Sue Virgin Records
The Smashing Pumpkins filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against their former label, Virgin Records, on March 24th in Los Angeles. The suit claims that Virgin illegally Find latest lyrics used the band’s name and music in a recent Pepsi and Amazon.com promotion, which offered consumers discounted song downloads. According to the suit, the Pumpkins “convey a message of honesty, artistic integrity and alternative, nonmain-stream culture. Virgin’s conduct has irreparably harmed [the band's] reputation.” Billy Corgan tells Rolling Stone, “We didn’t say yes to this. [It's an example] of them getting sneaky, because the only place they’re going to get money now is from corporate sponsors.” A Virgin representative declined to comment. ■ The Allman Brothers Band canceled their annual fifteen-show run at New York’s Beacon Theatre. The band is taking a hiatus while Gregg Allman recovers from treatment for hepatitis C. The dates, which were set for May, will be rescheduled.
