The Raveonettes
They like dark music and darker clothes
| SUNE ROSE WAGNER, OF DEN-mark’s Raveonettes, had a recent epiphany at the New York Philharmonic. “There were seventy people onstage, and they were all wearing black,” the singer-guitarist recalls. “Maybe that’s why the music was so intense.” The Raveonettes use a similar wardrobe for their own noirish songs, which singer Sharin Foo says “seek the darker and seedier side of life.” Electronics Their third album, Lust Lust Lust, blends fuzzed-out Sixties girl-group melodies with mountains of distortion and bleak lyrics (“The first love you can’t escape/The second love feels like rape”) to provide a cinematic aura that would fit a Wim Wenders road movie. Foo says she looks to Michelangelo Antonioni muse Monica Vitti for inspiration. “I’m wearing more mature clothes now,” she says. “I wear clothes a woman would wear.” WAGNER “My style is classic with a twist.” 1. “This cardigan is from H&M in Europe. Their collections are very different.” 2. “I got this Hawaiian shirt for five dollars. It’s got cars, suns and surfboards on it – there’s a party going on!” |
3. “I really like Acne jeans, but the name? The Swedish people -what’s wrong with them?” 4. “I wear pointy-toe shoes. These are Clout of London. I don’t know if I can ever wear normal shoes again.” FOO “I’m inspired by old movies and artists like Gustav Klimt.” PinSeeker 1500 Tournament Edition Golf Laser
5. “I’ve been dyeing my hair since we started out. I think it’s graphically so great to have Sune’s black hair and my white hair.”
“This vintage dress reminds me of Chicago in the Twenties – it has a gangster feel to it.” 7. “My shoes are Bruuns Bazaar. They have a sturdy heel, so they’re good for being onstage.”
